Shannon Holden
Welcome to Shannon Holden's Instructional Design Portfolio. Please take a moment to browse my ID work, skills, and the professional experience that I gained as an instructional designer. It’s my firm belief that a good challenge offers an opportunity to develop and improve, which is why I make a point of seeking out new challenges in the educational realm as well as in my professional life.
My Story
At the end of a very informational lunch in Detroit, a friend scheduled a meeting with their co-worker Janice (Director of the Instructional Design team). After my meeting with Janice and learning the day and the life of an instructional designer, I immediately went home and started researching how I can be successful in the industry. I registered for my masters degree at the University of South Florida, where I had previously graduated with a bachelors in Early Childhood Education.

After graduation I started my job search with very little luck. I noticed with every interview that the individuals in the Learning and Development positions came from another department and worked their way up. It was then my mission to do the same. I interviewed for a collections agent and received the job. I was excited to work my way to my dream role. The next step was a rotational position where I show cased my ID skills. At the end of the rotational position I was offered a full time position on the Instructional Design team at Ally Financial.
During my last four years as a Learning & Development Specialist at Ally I have presented learning proposals including measured learning consultations, performance gap analysis, training needs assessments, ROI objectives, and the resource requirements for improved enterprise efforts. I devised elearning modules with effective proficiency/application exercises utilizing adult learning theory content. I developed and managed project plans across 3 lines of business to ensure optimized learning strategies in alignment with objectives that drive business results, which resulted in 80% process improvement. I designed and implemented learning initiatives, resources, and programs consisting of facilitator guides, participant guides, e-learning courses, ILT courses, VILT courses, games, videos, simulations, and job aids to support learning objectives for over 500 learners, resulting in a 10% increase in employee success rates. I did this while utilizing 8+ types of technology (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Rise, Vyond, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Captivate, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator) to create and deliver more than 100 learning assets.
